Brothers
Rolling Knolls Country Club was denied approval for construction
permit which would have allowed them to begin breaking ground early
this summer. As of a result they have to go back to their
architects and draw up a new plan that will have to be submitted and
approved through yet another series of (I am told) drawn out
meetings for the village "go ahead". What this means
to us is that we get another go at our favorite watering hole
with all the accommodations for this summer 2008. We have
booked the bar and the banquet hall for the date of July 12th, 2008.
It is the Saturday after the Fourth of July weekend and is the date
that most of you had normally planned your itinerary for this outing
around. There will be open bar, lunch, golf, dinner, open bar
and a hold 'em tournament as well as live "entertainment".
It proves to be our best year yet! Please mark it in your
calendars. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon!.

It is
with a very heavy heart that I must inform you all about the passing
of a dear friend and great Brother. Christopher Kubacik has died.
While little is known as to the apparent reason for to his death. His
passing nonetheless, is a terrible tragedy and a great loss to many.
Chris was a beautiful person whose infectious laugh touched many
people. His friendship was coveted by those that new him and
those who were close him took pride in knowing that he was someone you
could always depend on.
To be honest, I spent the last eighteen years of my life in envy of
him. His life was that of magazine covers and postcards. While most
of us dreamt about being the hero or contemplated traveling to some
far off land Chris was actually doing it! His was the type of life
you read about or saw on prime time television. That was Kuby! He
was on the front lines serving his country in the cockpit. He flew in
the South Pacific and fulfilled his duties over Afghanistan. He
traveled the world and was proud to be in the United States Navy in
the service of his Country. He always answered the call and never
backed down from a challenge. Unfortunately my Brothers, not all
battles can be won in life .
For Chris (in his life) his battle was private. More concerned about
the others around him, he put everyone else first and his own needs
second. So true to his personality, he never wanted to burden anyone
with the weight of his problems. No matter what others might think
about this statement, this to was the cross Chris had chosen
to carry.
At this time, I ask for all of you to please say a prayer for
Christopher's family as I know that his loss is absolutely devastating
to them. We can only hope that our thoughts and prayers bring them
some comfort as they try to make something out of all of this.
More details will come as to the arrangements for Chris's burial as
the family releases it. You will find it on the website.
As I write this now, I have to admit that I am struggling with the a
decision that I have made about actually sending this mailing. You
see, a couple of us received an email from Chris a few weeks ago. It
was poetic as usual, but in hindsight (to me) it is now so much more.
I have chosen to share it with all of you and have pasted his words
under my words below. They were not the last words we shared with
each other, but will probably be (for me) words that I will try and
live the rest of my life by.
"Fella's, Sometimes I sit down and ask myself, "Have we really all
changed that much since college?" I was going through some old
paperwork my parents had saved for me since their move from
Chicago. I found a letter from the "Social Joes" to the "69'er's"
from when we lived back in the dorms. It made me laugh but more so
made me wonder what had ever happened to all that creative energy
and ambition we used to have. I feel more like I've assimilated
into the mainstream populous and have conformed so much that my
spark has gone out. Anyway, I decided to put it up in plain view at
my desk so I can remember the TITANS we used to be and still are.
Dare to strike out and find new ground my friends! Thanks for all
the great times we had and I look forward to the ones to come. I'll
leave you with this quote, "A ship in a harbor is safe, but that is
not what ships were built for!"
Be great today,
Koobus Sends"
I can only say as I sit here now, that I truly loved you Kuby. You
were one of my best friends and I will never ever forget you. I am
sorry! I know now that you were so sick. I only wish we could have
seen it sooner.
I will spend the rest of my life living as you told me too. I will
never forget those moments we shared. I will always be proud to have
called you my Brother.
I will always remembers the "TITANS"!
H.F.F. My Brother!

Tuesday 9/26/06 I am just getting the info on Dan's passing.
I remember Dan telling everyone during the gavel
passing that he had MS--it had to be over 17 years
ago...
That's how long he battled this disease.
To know nothing else of the man,
This shows you the strength, character, and toughness
of your Brother.
Being a medic for the past several years, I know how
he lived life with a terrible disease--something I
couldn't fathom at the time he told us.
for example:
The Disease MS,
attacks you as a healthy person,
slowly it takes your ability to stand on your legs,
then it takes the ability to move your legs,
then the ability to control anything to do with your
legs,
followed by a loss of any feeling in your legs....
It's just not the legs, but your arms, your fingers,
etc....
And your Brain is awake, aware, and comprehending
through all of this.
For his life partner that has taken care of him
through this.....
Know that you are in my prayers as well, your love and
strength at his side through this is full of my and my
fellow Bothers grateful thanks.
In looking back:
Dan was a fellow Phi Pledge Brother....
It was almost twenty years ago, when he and I talked
at a Sig Ep party to each other, he told me he was
going to pledge and told me I should pledge as well,
introducing me to Brother Woods.
He was very close with Brother Jannush, his roomate
during our 506 S Poplar days, and one of the four guys
I showed up to that party with.
He had an unforgetful, infectious laugh like Brother
Hummer--when Dan laughed you couldn't help but laugh
as well.
When he smiled, yes life was good at those times.
And I tell you, NO ONE could chug a Beer, let alone
straight pitchers of beer, faster than him--a title he
always wore proudly--no matter how hard Bluto and
myself tried to take the title away from him at
Gatsby's and T-birds.
He was one of those people who never lost his temper,
nor shown any signs of coming close to it.
He was always one to offer help in any way needed, and
to further show the strength, character, and toughness
in the kind of man he was, I can't recall a time of
him ever asking for any in return.
He was proud to be a Sig Ep,
He was a pledge member who was there when the ranks
were at twenty, he was definitely there to help our
ranks swell to almost a hundred a few years later.
He was a member that all can be proud to call Brother.
God Bless you Dan.
Keep Brother Spencer Watts Company.
And I will see you both when it's my turn to join you
on the other side for a beer at that Golden 506 S.
Poplar in the sky.
Mezpah,
Bip Semioli
